Celebrating Naivety as an Energy for Good
10 Oct
Will Hayler, CEO and Co-Founder of the Blue Earth Summit, described his event to us as “an incredibly hopeful and positive place to be, full of creativity, innovation, and a hell of a lot of naivety.”
And he loves that.
At Reboot the Future, we’ve been thinking a lot about naivety.
Why would someone like Will celebrate that there’s “a hell of a lot of naivety” at a gathering of thousands trying to solve some of the world’s biggest problems?
Perhaps because naivety isn’t foolishness, it’s belief.
Belief that another story for our world is possible.
Like us, many attending Blue Earth reject the old narrative of fear and scarcity. They’re seeking lives rooted in kindness, connection, and a thriving planet. Yet too often, the idea that we might respond to our global challenges with compassion and fairness is dismissed as “naïve”. It’s seen as idealism when in fact, it’s courage.
If believing that the world could be kinder and fairer makes us naïve, then all progress depends on the naïve.

At Reboot the Future, we know that courage grows when we realise we’re not alone. That’s why we’re joining this year’s Blue Earth Summit to play our part in connecting the naïve, the brave, the creative, and the wise who are daring to imagine something better.
In a recent interview on our new Let’s Reboot the Future podcast, Will shared that being honest about your naivety, what you don’t know, opens you to connect with others who might have the experience or insight you need. Embracing your naivety, your energy to build better, and pairing it with experience can create powerful change.
We’ll be hosting two Reboot Walking Conversations during the Summit, creating space for people to bring their naïve energy and bold visions for a better world. Along the way, we’ll connect those dreamers with others who bring experience, wisdom, and practical insight. Together, we’ll explore how imagination meets action, and how hope becomes impact.
We’re also excited to celebrate the launch of the Let’s Reboot the Future podcast, a weekly 15-minute treasure trove of stories from people leading with kindness, caring for our planet, and proving that thriving and compassion go hand in hand.
Our first guests include Will Hayler, reflecting on business as a force for good, and Kim Polman, Reboot’s Chair and Co-Founder, who reminds us that the Golden Rule - treat others and the planet as we wish to be treated - is not just ancient wisdom but urgently needed today.
If you’ve ever been called naïve for believing in a kinder, fairer world, this podcast, and this movement, are for you.

At Reboot the Future, we believe a better future is possible
if we treat others and the planet as we wish to be treated.
Some call that naïve.
But as Thomas Friedman, the Pulitzer prize winning journalist says:
-
You’d be naive to think we could save the world without it.
